Satellite Radio in Canada...

Let me say that I've been waiting for this for a couple years now.

I think it is great to have ad-free content, with "global" coverage for those who travel a fair amount. Apparently the CRTC, in their ruling, have given the typical mandate for regulated US vs. Canadian content (which by the way I don't believe in... see below), but of course that hasn't stopped some from grumbling.

Some of the specific features I'm excited about is that when I travel to Calgary, Toronto, or even "the States" I'll be able to catch the same programs and stations as when I'm home in Vancouver. There is comprehensive coverage of sports events, and regular syndicated talk radio.

What I want to see next is allowance for subscription music in Canada. All the services I've seen are in the U.S. only, likely not offered in Canada for fear of less-restrictive copyright laws.

Anyway, for those who are sore about the potential intrusion of U.S. content, culture and values, all I have to say is that the Canadian music scene is more than adequately represented on the global scene... Sarah, Alanis, Shania, BNL, The Hip, Leonard, Neil and Ann! (... just kidding)

... who am I missing?

Anyway, my point is that we're out there... we don't need artificial protection (even the Government of Canada believes these protections or ... artistic tariffs don't work!)

So... what really are the arguments against satellite radio for the Canadian consumer?
