Outlook 2007 and my 1and1.com Exchange Account...

UPDATE:  There are a number of good suggestions and tips that seem to work in the comments section below... be sure to check them out. Leave a comment if it helped, if it didn't or if you have other ideas. Thanks!

UPDATE:  It turns out that when you use the full production release of Outlook 2007 it works fine.  I am now retracting the claws...

Just was informed today that 1&1.com's Exchange Server package doesn't support Outlook 2007.  That's odd because it worked for me before, and appears to work for others, but doesn't work (for me) now.

Just the other day I tried logging in from my desktop (using Outlook 2007) and a modal dialog box came up informing me that:

The Microsoft Exchange administrator has made a change that requires you quit and restart Outlook.

... ever since then, it crashes every time Outlook logs into the 1&1.com Exchange Server.

BTW - I got a response from customer support also:

Dear Jame, (Customer ID: 12345678)
Thank you for contacting us.

SO you have set up your exchange account in outlook 2007?
As of this moment, your exchange account will not work properly on Outlook 2007.

i would advice you to use outlook 2003.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Is anyone having trouble

Is anyone having trouble sending and receiving email to non-Exchange users outside 1and1? I'm having trouble, but they deny any fault.

It worked thanks to all

I just wanted to thank everyone for this information. For the record it took a few suggestions to make it work:

Importing the .prf file using the command line as suggested

using exchange\exxxxxx as the username in the prompt

Now, I am worried about some of the comments I've read. I was planning on using this service to take some load off myself and migrate about 10 users to this Exchange setup. I'll have to test it all on my own before making the final decision.

I'd also like to know when

I'd also like to know when 1and1, at least in the UK, will cough up Exchange 2007... I NEED this for HTML email on my Windows Mobile device (and WANT it for the new web interface!) But 1&1 are cagey about when they will actually come up with it, getting:

"We apologize for the incorrect information, about the exchange server 2007, actually the said upgrade is still on going there are some exchange server that already been upgraded but for the time frame we have no updates yet from our higher department when this will be implemented."

Has anyone else emailed them and gotten more sense out of them about Exchange 07?

1and1exchange and Outlook 2007

1and1 is gay.
Run. Run away as fast as you can.
(unless you love talking to Indians reading from an out of date and useless instruction manual)

Also, anyone have any tips

Also, anyone have any tips on how to avoid that annoying logon prompt every time you start outlook, and to get it to just remember your password!!! please?

Anyone know when Exchange

Anyone know when Exchange 2007 will be unrolled by 1and1? I'm getting tired of waiting for things like server-side RSS, OVA, categories, good server-search, pop-blocker-awareness-in-OWA, HTML email from my windows mobile device, remote wipe from owa etc etc etc... the benefits of Exchnage 07 are so numerous and 1and1 still haven't got their act together to do them!

Exchange 2007

Anyone know when 1and1 will finally upgrade to exchange server 2007. I use windows mobile and it will offer HTML formatted email messages once they upgrade to exchange 2007, currently vm6 requires exchange 2007 to get this feature to work.

Its interesting that

Its interesting that exchange.1and1.com does not support the outlook 2007 because I have downloaded from them. I got it from the admin control panel. They provide no sort warnings to say do not download because it will not work since it overwrote my outlook 2003. Go figure.

exchange server disconnected/1and1.com

Hello everyone. 1and1.com is useless and I am getting ready to pull my hair out over this one. Up until 11 a.m. today, my exchange throught 1and1.com was woking fine. I get back home and my outlook 2007 states I am disconnected from exchange and I get the following error:

Task 'Microsoft Exchange - Sending' reported error (0x80040115) : 'The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.'

I haven't changed any settings yet I still cannot connect to exchange. 1and1 needed a screenshot because they are clueless as usual and blam my internet provider Knology.

Is this happening to anyone else and does anyone have any ideas?

I am trying to set this up

I am trying to set this up on 1and1.co.uk
I have downloaded my prf file but when I import it with the command line it doesnt seem to work and I have to configure the account manually.

I opened the file up in text pad and saw what I thought the setting should be.
I have tried server setting of exchange.1and1.co.uk

and a mailbox of exchange/exxxxx but it comes back and says the exchange server is unavailable.

Any pointers please?
thanks,
simon.

1and1 and Blackberry/Outlook outages

After working successfully for a year 1and1 has stopped doing anything well on the exhange server side. My Outlook is disconnected regularly during the day, often locking up the program. My BlackBerry online access via Verizon Wireless is timed out constantly to the point that I have not had a connection for 2 weeks.

I spent 5 days in circular emails with "tech support" people who I was certain did not know how to use a computer. It finally got upgraded to a level 2 type who after 5 days blamed everybody under the sun including Microsoft, BlackBerry and Verizon Wirelss and, of course, me who had obviously been constantly changing my login password but did not realize I was doing so. About the only people they did not blame was the Bush Administration.

I am switching to aitcom.net when I have a bit of time to do so. 1and1 is useless in my book!

Office 2007 & Exchange @ 1and1

Thanks very much for posting your experience getting Outlook 2k7 to work with 1and1's setup.bat file. Once I removed the double quotes that surrounded the .prf file, and changed the NTB... to Exchange/userid (seems like I entered userid/password several times) it configured just fine. You'd think they'd have this down better by now. In any case, thanks.

Worked for me!

Thanks peeps; that worked fine for me. I'm running Vista Ultimate and Outlook 2007. I deleted all of the profiles from mail control panel and run the import PRF command line.

Worked for me

I used Jame's suggestion with all the names properly setup:

c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12>Outlook.exe /importprf "C:\e123456789.prf"

Vista & O12

Here is what worked for me. Outlook kept starting (it seemed) without importing the prf file and going straight into the wizard mode. I even put the prf file in the Office12 directory to make sure there were no path issues but the same thing kept happening. Then I decided to try this (like someone else) after putting the prf file in the root folder (under C:\) and plugged the following command in the Run box. Please copy and paste exactly and there is no reason why this shouldn't work:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\Outlook.exe /importprf C:\eXXX.prf

No quotes, no commas, no nothing. Just copy and paste this and it will launch O12 and go straight into the profile import and then setup. It takes five or so minutes to set up though. I am posting this here because the posts on this page helped point me in the right direction (even if the instructions weren't exact).

Thanks to everyone who contributed.

It was not working for me

It was not working for me but then i did something and it worked

After you import the profile. Run outlook
The login box should popup with something like

ntxbeus01\eXXXXXXXX

replace that with

exchange\eXXXXXXXX

and type in your password.

Tweak on Command Line

Just had to do it from a fresh Vista and Outlook 2007/12 installation. It may help to provide the full path to the Outlook executable:

Example:
“C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\Outlook.exe ” /importprf “C:\Users\[username]\Desktop\[filename].prf”

-- jame healy

I cracked it

Go to your mail settings, in control panels, delete all the profiles in there, then run the command line to import the prf.

job done!

Good job Sam...

... thanks for following up here!

Do you have a personal web site or blog you could post here?

-- jame healy

No Problem

I don't have any such thing I'm afraid. glad to have been of help (I just had to look this page up again to remember how I got it working last time! just did a reinstall.

Worked for Me ... Thanks for saving me alot of time

worked for me on outlook 2007 running vista...

Getting PRF file to do something

I've tried the PRF command line fix as outlined about. All that happens is Outlook 2007 opens, nothing more.

Except one time, it cleaned out all my exsisting account settings and added another set of personal folders.

I'd be happy to hear any ideas of what I'm doing wrong.

Thank you for any time you may give to help me!

Sorry...

I don't actually have any other ideas. It just worked for me the first time. Sorry.

"UPDATE: It turns out that

"UPDATE: It turns out that when you use the full production release of Outlook 2007 it works fine."

Have you tried this? I have a full production copy that I just got but I can't get it to connect to exchange.1and1.com... and the prf file doesnt work either (running Vista) do you know how to resolve the issue? Thanks

delete all your profiles

delete all your profiles from the mail control panel, then try again

Importing PRF

Yes I did get it to work now in Outlook 2007.

I used the Outlook command line to import the PRF file. (See here: http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/commandlines.htm)

outlook.exe /importprf c:\eXXXXXXXXX.prf

I am however currently using Win XP SP2. Not sure if Vista has some of its own unique challenges.
